Artist Profile:
Keith Yazzie Jay grew up in the four-corners area of the Navajo Nation and now resides in Cortez, CO. As early as high school, Keith started honing his talent as a sculptor. Working at a pottery shop, his hand and finger coordination developed to the point where he could with an exacto knife. He started to create pottery pieces with Navajo-life scenes and wildlife. By the mid-1990's, Keith had developed his own style of etched two-tone pottery where he carefully layers each colored pottery to a certain thickness to carve designs and wildlife. Keith has won numerous awards in art shows throughout the United States. His recent winning entry was at Cahokia Mounds in St. Louis. He was awarded People's Choice and 1st place incatergory.
Keith is proud to share his expertise and knowledge of traditional Navajo designs creating this pottery.
